Utilization of electric arc furnace dust as a solid catalyst in biodiesel production

World’s energy sources like petrochemical oils, natural gas and coal cause global warming environmental pollution. Therefore, the traditional must be replaced by renewable resources. Biodiesel has been recognized as one of effective, green, sustainable fuels. This paper investigates production biodiesel from sunflower oil using electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) a heterogeneous solid catalyst. Four reaction variables, i.e., time, methanol-to-oil (M/O) molar ratio, temperature EAFD loading, were chosen to determine their effect on production. The all variables yield was evaluated response surface methodology. A relation developed representing conversion function independent variables. Reaction conditions optimization have studied for maximization minimization. optimum equals 96% at 57 °C, ratio 20:1, time 1 h loading 5%.
